Bug List (Assignment 2A)

Bug List:

1. In the late afternoon, Southwest gym becomes over-crowded and I can''t use all the machines and weights I want to.
- This big arises because there are only two gyms on campus, and at this time most people are out of class. Therefore, the gym becomes extremely busy and machines get taken.

2. There are no healthy food options to order in late at night.
- This happens because healthier options are typically not fast food, and only fast food places stay open late.

3. Almost all of my schedule is 100% online, and not traditional, in person lectures.
- This occurs because UF wants to cut costs, and because the school is overpopulated. Also, most business school classes are online to some extent, so that is why my schedules in particular are mostly online.

4. The washers and dryers are almost always taken on the third floor of Infinity Hall.
- This happens because there are only three sets of washers and dryers, but over 80 kids that live on the third floor of Infinity Hall.

5. When I try to lose some weight, it bugs me that these healthier food options are more expensive.
- This arises because healthier foods are often more natural and not processed. They are also usually organic which takes more time and effort to produce, causing its price to increase.

6. Gas prices are too expensive, and cost me a lot of money.
- This occurs because I live in a more affluent area of South Florida with many people, driving the price of gas up more than other areas.

7. My car does not get good gas mileage, costing me a lot of money each week in gas.
- This happens to me because my car is modified to be more powerful. These modifications lowered the fuel efficiency of my car, causing me to spend more time and money at the gas pump.

8. The line at Chipotle on University is always out the door, no matter what time of day it is.
- This happens because Chipotle is cheap, good, and very near campus. The low cost appeals to students, so many of them come to Chipotle to eat, causing the line to always be out the door.

9. The food at the Broward Dining Hall is not healthy and full of grease.
- This happens because the dining hall uses cheaper foods that are very processed and highly preserved, so the food is not healthy.

10. I can't sleep sometimes because I can hear everything through the walls of Infinity Hall.
-  This happens because UF probably had a smaller budget and wanted to fit as many kids in the dorm as they could, so the walls are very thin and sound travels through them.

11. It takes too long to cook food in the common area at Infinity Hall.
- This happens because Infinity does not have a true stove, only a hot plate. The hot plate cannot get hot enough to cook proteins like chicken and steak quickly.

12. When I go to pick up a family member or friend at the Fort Lauderdale Airport, there is always so much traffic at the  arrival car line.
- Fort Lauderdale Airport is a large international airport that has hundreds of flights going in and out of it daily, so there are always a lot of people there to pick up loved ones.

13. The drive through line at Chick Fil A on Hillsboro Road in Deerfield Beach, Florida is always tens of cars long.
- A lot of people consider Chick Fil A to be one of the best fast food places in the country, and there are only two windows at the drive-through. This combination of a lot of people and only two windows causes the line to be very lengthy.

14. It really bugs me when people chew loudly.
- This must occur when people were not taught great manners, or they just are not aware of how loud they are when they chew.

15. There are very limited parking spots around campus for cars.
- This occurs because there are too many students with cars at UF, and not enough space allotted for parking around campus.

16. People never let me change lanes or enter a lane while driving.
- This may happen because everyone believes that they need to be somewhere, when in reality, allowing one person to change lanes in front of them has a very minor impact on arrival times.

17. The line to get a sub at Publix on 13th and University is always takes so long.
- This occurs because Publix subs are popular and cheap, so a lot of students want them. Also, there is usually only one to two workers at the deli making the subs so it takes a long time to get one made.

18. Whenever it is time for me to get a new Iphone, the exact one I want is never in stock.
- This occurs because Apple is one of the most popular brands in the world, and whenever they release a new phone, a lot of people get their new ones very quickly. This leaves me with very limited options, and the exact variant that I want is usually not in stock.

19. The checkout lines at Walmart are always so long, and the self checkout machines never work right.
- This occurs because Walmart is one of the cheapest grocery/department stores in the country. This attracts many people and there are only a few checkout lines open at a time. This creates the long checkout lines that we are all so used to.

20. The Boca Town Center Mall parking lot is always so full around the holiday times.
- This occurs because everyone in Boca Raton is shopping for Christmas gifts for their loved ones. The mall is one of the most popular places in town to go shop, so all the parking spaces get taken up due to the influx of people coming to shop for gifts.

Reflection: I found this assignment to be a little difficult towards the end. At first, all of the little things that annoy me in life were very easy to identify, but towards the last 6 or 7 I began struggling to think of things to write about. I found it difficult to write things that were not to similar to other bugs. I also found this assignment to be mildly difficult because there are so many things in the world that bug me, so it was hard to pick 20 that really annoy me throughout my everyday life.

  1. Hey David,
I could tell that you really spent some time looking through your day to day to find these bugs, and many of them are well thought out and problems I didn't even think of; I was impressed. I agree with a lot of your points, one specifically being the one about not having healthy food options late at night, I hate that. One thing you could improve on is looking into other areas of society like interactions with others and stuff like that as I noticed that many of your bugs have to do with retail and consumption, but overall it was a great job!

  2. Hi David,

I agree with you on that the bug list got pretty difficult to complete at times, I found myself really having to look for a lot of problems. However I've dealt with #1 most days of the week, as unfortunately everyone wants to go to the gym at the same time. Your bug list is very in depth with "why?" responses.
